hey Ricardo....I noticed you are from SD. I actually stayed in Gazcue for a month recently. Can you tell me more about your quote about Gazcue? I may stay there again...although Im trying to go to a small town or Santiago next time.

Oh, and interesting blog...I am white male who is exposed to the inner city in the USA. What do you guys think of Philly in regards to the Latin culture..? I know its more Puerto Rican....I started looking into joining an inner city church...I like Latin women but dont really know how to get around, so to speak

I wouldn't call them gold-diggers; I would call them opportunists and climbers at worst, survivors at best. You and I wonder where the worthwhile Dominican women hang out, because we can't seem to find them. Bars and clubs are reasonable bets since, after all, you and your friends frequent them and you are overall pretty good catches, right? There has to be at least one Dominican woman in a similar situation that you can meet at a bar, right?

Let's say you find one that is your equal socially, economically, intellectually, etc. Someone into whom you would be willing to put the time and effort. The moment this equality is established, you struck out; you are no longer good enough for her because she has been brought up to aim higher than equal. This has nothing to do with you and you have little, if any control over this. Your being equal puts you below the lower end of her range. It doesn't matter if she came from a barrio or her family is one of the best ones from Gazcue (whatever that's worth nowadays), she needs to marry up. The barrier to entry for a club or a bar is too low: cold hard cash. It doesn't matter how you got your money, the more you have, the more attractive you are and the higher in the scale you rank. Unless you are made of money, it will be a no-contest.

Turning it around to a woman's perspective, you are the target for a woman who has nothing to offer other than her body. She's aiming high while you would want nothing to do with her because she brings nothing to the metaphorical table. These are the types that will swarm around you and, if you are smart, you steer clear from them.

The harsh reality for a Dominican man when it comes to Dominican women is that if you don't have money to flaunt, you have nothing. Circumstances don't matter at all. Cash, as usual, is king.

Mind you, I live in Santo Domingo and it's the same here. I got confused with your here/there references, but unfortunately it's all the same.

This is the second time I've come across your blog this month and I have to say, good work!!! Haven't bookmarked you yet, but I'll be sure to stop by every now and then.

Thanks for that. Its just that he says he wants to be with me eventually. That he is just doing this for now. He asked me to wait for him to get a divorce. I'm not wanting to do that. But I love him soooo much!!!

Cecillia -

I'm sorry about what happened, but I don't really know what to tell you. You didn't go wrong at all. He decided to make the decision he made, so don't blame yourself.
