I know a lot of my readers don’t speak Spanish, so I’ll give you the cliff notes, translated version.
#1 I’m shocked Univision got a Black Latino person to interview him. Really, I’m shocked. But I hear the guy who interviewed him has been with the station for a while and is pretty good.
#2 Sosa acted like he was promoting this skin cream as a business the way he didn’t want to reveal its name. He just said it was from Europe.
#3 He skirted the question on the green eyes and trying to look like some guy from Milan with his hair like that.
#4 He said he wasn’t racist. What the hell does being racist have to do with any of this? He’s a self-loather and not a racist. He has African ancestry whether he speaks Spanish or not – plain and simple.
#5 Last, but not least, the interviewer (who I commend for the most part) asked him whether he was “orgulloso” (to be proud of) of being Black. Part one of the interview ended without him answering that, but you can see by his facial movements that he was caught off guard and doesn’t consider himself that.
I won’t post part two because I’ve given this fool too much attention. He’s disappointed not only me, but all those kids in Dominican Republic who are his skin color and around Latin America/Caribbean who deal with discrimination because they are darker than others.
I tried to not be bothered by this, but it’s hard when this issue has directly affected you.
The issue of color, color, color…
Update:
Part 2 is just a joke as the interviewer was soft on him and Sammy said he’s in love with his African roots. Blah, blah, blah.

cream from Europe –that’s just him tyring to make it sound like it’s hi-tech, in fashion, and in the now.
Green eyes + press hair. Definitely signally he wants to project more europe ancestry.
Yes, it’s not totally racism, but I could see the underlying meaning of the question. The interviewer probably wanted to ask if he thought being black meant he was ugly, since he wanted to change his visible blackness: skin, hair and eyes.
of course he doesn’t consider himself black. Because black ppl are only in Africa,America and Haiti, not in Dominican Republic. if he wasn’t of african/black heritage then why is he altering himself so much to hide it? last time i checked tainos or spaniards don’t look like him lol
Yes, let’s move on. It’s sad that the color issue is still so prominent in latin culture. Will it change? I think it’s hard to break that culture, when you have ppl like mr. sosa who find it so hard to come out and openly say he’s of african ancestry. Wheter he calls himself black or not doens’t matter. But gosh only a fool could look in the mirror and have his features and say to himself “i’m not of african descent” that denial alone is why young kids of his color will grow up prolly hating their color and hating who they are.
So mr. cabrera let’s move on and keep on keeping on.
