Great video! I may post it on my site if you don’t mind. It is important for more people to understand the irony and complexity of this issue in D.R. Thanks for this post..and congrats on the new job.

I’m just getting to know you through your blog, but I applaud you for your willingness to approach and examine these issues. I’m a dark skinned black woman living in your neighborhood and the racist treatment I’ve received from many Dominicans is not only ironic but insane, considering that upwards of 85% of the people from DR have definite African heritage. So I’m not surprised at all that this behavior occurs in DR itself. But as a woman who is proud to be black, I see this as another example of people who have deluded themselves in an effort to feel superior and assimilate closer and closer to whiteness. Knowing how well that has gone for other immigrant groups in this country, all I can say is Good Luck with that ;)

    DeeDee -

I really appreciate you taking the time out to read and comment.

I’m sorry you are going through these experiences in my neighborhood. Our neighborhood. It is truly a shame.

Our people need to realize that our history is as African as anyone else’s in the Caribbean and Latin America.

    We need to do better.
