Gay Talese On Tailoring…

September 28th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Fashion, La Familia

For a while now, I’ve gotten away from my fashion fascination on this blog. It’s never really gone anywhere, but I haven’t really been inspired aside from the good folks over at Street Etiquette.

But this past weekend, I was reminded of someone who was mentioned to me throughout my youth, the legendary Gay Talese.

If you don’t know who this is, you can’t consider yourself a lover of writing or fashion.

When I was younger, the male figures in my family told me about Mr. Talese. I have family members who love fashion, owned stores, and were seamstresses. They told me about the art of tailoring, but most importantly, how your outfit can be nice, but it won’t be fabulous unless it fits right.

In the video, you see the custom touches he gave to his vintage Brioni and Pierre Cardin suits. And he is right, tailoring is being threatened. Too many guys out there look a complete mess.

In final, to quote Gay:

“I’m extravagant in ways that relate to my heritage.”
