Suns sweep Spurs 4-0.

Five things

1. The Suns and their fans can now call this a rivalry. We beat them four straight playoff series’ in the last 8 years. They finally defeated us. It was just a matter of time.

2. Manu was never the same after his Gonzo got fractured by Dirk.

3. I know he has four rings, but I’ve had many moments over his 13-14 year stint as coach where Popovich makes me pull my hair out. He didn’t start Parker from the beginning and his switching strategy on the Pick and Roll was horrible. I think Phoenix is a solid team – don’t get me wrong. But I also believe this series loss was not about Phoenix being so much better than us, but about Popovich being out-coached. He was stubborn and it cost us.

4. We need an athletic big man to help out Tim Duncan. A big man that can block shots and guard an athletic PF. TD can no longer guard the athletic 4′s in this league. He needs to strictly guard centers. We also need a perimeter defender not named Keith Bogans. Bruce Bowen was sorely missed as you saw. We need to let go of Roger Mason and find a way to trade Richard Jefferson, but keep Matt Bonner (for 3 point reasons). Also, please stop the whispers of trading Tony Parker.

Last, but not least, if you’ve read closely you’ll see that for the Spurs to return to prominence, they need to return to a defensive mentality. That’s what got us four rings and our fifth.

5. All my friends want to say this is the end. I can’t forget the so-called experts either. I’ve heard that every year and we either get to the semis or the conference finals. I’m confident in our front office and I’ve always said: “As long as Duncan is playing, we have a chance.”
