Like c’mon i’m sick of seeing this. I think atleast 30% of brothers in this country carry around some sort of wave brush with them and don’t even got waves. I personally got a problem with both. Every ten minutes you see these guys brushing their hair like something’s out of place when every strand and wave is in line.
To make matters even worse, these guys brush their hair in the most public places. They take out their wave brush and spread their dandruff around in lunch rooms, trains, streets, offices, you name it. I just don’t understand it.
I’m all for people keeping themselves groomed, but if you’re going to brush your hair, brush it in the bathroom. I’m not sure whether these brushes got some smooth bristles that massage your scalp and it feels good, but pleasure your scalp in private and not public. I think in a matter of one 7 hour work day, brother’s take them out 2x-3x an hour and I don’t think I’m exaggerating. I never seen sista’s brushing their hair in the streets, so I really don’t understand why brother’s are doing it.
But, to each…his own.

If they dont have waves they have to constantly brush their hair in order for waves to come in, I brush my hair whenever im bored or not doing anything wherever im at.

Just came home from traveling and my waves are still intact!! Let me break it down to you.The only way a wave style will be maintained well is from brushing ,moisturizing, and du-ragging as much as possible in between haircuts. I agree that brushing the waves in public is a bit too much so I have my brushing times split in 3 times a day morning ,afternoon, and night(in shower). In between that time I rarely carry a brush in public ,if so i’ll maybe brush in my car, between lunch breaks at work,or the restroom at work .I have been doing this for years since my high-school days and i’ve always got compliments on my hair. Not to be bragging but that is the first thing a lot of people(especially women) notice individually for me and collectively for the reader your hair!It can get crazy; sometimes people in public will comment on your hair if it’s different or if it’s something that they rarely see everyday; I guess that’s the case of why there are a lot of brothers young and old brush a lot(even in public) to get their hair pattern 360 (LOL)!! But the purpose and understanding of it all is grooming ,looking good, and building more wave pattern in between haircuts. So I never have my barber cut against the way I brush my hair. For example,I brush my hair forward on the top, straight down in the back, and come to a 45 degree angle on the left and right sides. With my brushing and haircuts you can say that I groom my scalp in a circular motion or in other words a 360 degree pattern from the crown of my scalp. So there is sort of a science and culture to building a wave pattern. “Knowledge and understanding not just for the sake of doing a thing is the key to an artform”. The brush is the tool,my head is the canvas, and let’s paint a beehive(lol)!!

Mi Vida you are not exxagerating about this for it’s true. Also this has been done for a while since the 1980′s.The whole purpose is to develop a wave pattern while brushing your hair and keeping it down with a du-rag . Black men followed this method since the 1980′s even from the early 1900′s with the inventions of pomades and relaxer’s that allowed hair to appear more neat. The brushing method is just another way to develop more waves ; but I agree in public I would feel like a nut brushing my hair.

I’m a black man and I keep a brush in my desk at work, in my car and of course several at home. I only brush in the restroom, in my car and at home. It’s not very tasteful to do otherwise. A young man in my Sunday school class took his brush out and started brushing his hair and looked at me as if I was crazy for saying something to him about it.
