Please don’t send supplies, clothing, food, medicine or anything like that. Today’s news reports are filled with quoted from relief officials who are deeply worried about the logistical nightmare of getting supplies out of the airport, which has already become a nightmarish bottleneck. If you want to help, the best thing to do is probably to send cash donation to a REPUTABLE relief agency like UNICEF, the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and the like. Also, there’s Wyclef Jean’s charitable foundation, http://www.yele.org.
Remember, it took MONTHS to clear the backlog of cartons of donated supplies after the Indonesia tsunami in 2005. By that time, all of the usable medicines and supplies at the bottom of the pile had expired.
Send money!
