I highly recommend Barbados and the Crane Beach resort. I had a great time in this hotel. The food was affordable and we stayed in an amazing room.
We were in a two level room that was like an apartment with a balcony near our bedroom, and a staircase to the upper level with a cool pool which you can see pictured.
One of my favorite vacations of all-time though I haven’t taken many.
It would make sense for me to write a long post explaining where I’ve been. Why I’ve been absent and why my last post was close to four months ago. Instead, I will provide you with a series of posts detailing why I’ve been MIA from my beloved blog in the coming days.
But before I get to that, I wanted to say that I appreciate all the texts and emails I received from people I didn’t even know read my blog asking: “When is it coming back?”
As I’ve mentioned before, I use this as therapy. But to find out that there are people who enjoy reading my posts and following my life is really amazing.
So after a few vacations, an increased workload at my job, personal projects, a new partner, and a virus that shut down my site for about a month-and-a-half, I’m back for good; and I’m never going on blog vacation again.
As one of the nation’s leading Hip-Hop intellectuals, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill has built a successful career through education, journalism and television. While many know Dr. Hill for his appearances battling Bill O’Reilly on the O’Reilly Factor, the man Marc Lamont Hill is more than just that; he’s a proud father, a Columbia University Professor, and editor-at-large for the Philadelphia Daily News.
In this edition of “Drinks With,” we have fun with Dr. Hill as we ask him about his social life, his debates with Bill O’Reilly, and other topics.
Shoutout to my man and one of the founders of the Uptown Collective Led Black who did great on this panel titled “Hyperlocal Media in Your ‘Hood.”
You should definitely check this out if you’re interested in online media.
He mentions my post last year detailing my time (48 minute mark) at Inwood’s first gay club, Le Boy, which ignited a lot of discussion amongst many members of our community.
After finishing the season with the best record in basketball, I entered the playoffs with fear enveloping me. I told friends from February on that I was petrified of Memphis. They showed us exactly why by dominating us inside and scrambling to our 3-point shooters on the perimeter.
I’m not mad about this series loss. The Spurs overachieved this season winning 61 games. I did not expect any of this. I was mad when Fisher hit the .4 shot and Ginobili fouled Dirk. In both of those years, I know Duncan would have collected his 5th and 6th ring collectively.
That I didn’t believe this year despite us having a great regular season.
So what does the future hold? I don’t know.
Duncan has a year left and will probably retire after that; but our squad reminds me of the Patriots. We tend to find ways to plug the holes we have – even the biggest ones – and that we’ll do.
The Spurs have set a goal for themselves of winning a title or two every decade.
Let’s hope we can accomplish that because they spoiled me with 4 titles in 12 seasons.
A few weeks ago, I was forwarded a link to a documentary done by a man named Jamel Shariff which focuses on prostitution in the Dominican Republic which ranks 4th in the world on the issue. A documentary or expose on this was much needed.
While this young man had good intentions in bringing this issue to light, the execution of this documentary was horrible.
First, his professional/on-camera speaking skills were below average. The lack of any working knowledge of the Spanish language was embarrassing. There was no translator present or subtitles for those who don’t speak the language.
His excuse: “I’m from the hood man. I keep it real.”
So am I but that doesn’t mean I have to put out a work of such low quality on an issue of such high importance.
What else?
Well, the most disturbing part of the documentary were the zoom shots of the prostitutes bodies, and his comfort in putting his arm around them and physically touching them.
Worldstar gave this guy the title of the “Black Anderson Cooper.” Even if Cooper wasn’t gay, I doubt he would act this way on any issue overseas focused on prostitution.
All this documentary showed me is how bad people want to be famous on the ‘net even if it means embarrassing themselves.
When I saw this, I immediately forwarded it to my mostly Dominican friends.
Here were their responses:
“You sat through all of this? How were you able to?”
“This guy’s an idiot.”
Here are some of the comments I read on Youtube:
“This guy is a joke.”
“He is so dumb. The girl is talking to her mom not to a man for sex LOL Learn the language before you go to countries to be documenting stuff you dont know.”
“This was a horrible documentary first of all you can’t speak Spanish and you can barely speak proper English. Whats up with your communications skills you were talking US slang and the women didn’t even know what you were saying. Horrible horrible execution man. You played yourself on this one you just came off as a total cornball step your Spanish speaking came up next time. Why would you tell that young lady she cant be wifey because shes a hooker, she obviously had no idea what you said.”
