This Thursday night at 9 p.m, we will host our fifth Washington Heights and Inwood Radio Show live from Nostylgia on 251 Dyckman Street. We will be stationed inside their new, popular Tea Shop.

This will mark the beginning of our ‘Keep It Local’ campaign which will take us to different neighborhood stores to broadcast our show; while at the same time, helping to promote these local businesses to our listeners.

We will broadcast live from 9-945 and talk about the hot topics in our neighborhoods.

We hope you can join us.

6inchsociety

My sister Yadira and sister from another Carid have decided to open a blog titled 6inchsociety.com.

The blog focuses on fashion and I can’t think of any female duo who has more style.

The blog launched the 25th and I’m sure it will be a success.

Best of luck my loves…

This is a weekly series I work on with my co-workers Karla and Leighton called “On The Corner.”

Leighton is the man with the camera and fantastic editing skills; Karla is the PA who is great at finding individuals who look like they would give us great answers; and I ask an assortment of questions on a specific issue.

This series takes you to predominantly African-American neighborhoods throughout the city where we ask people’s opinions on issues affecting the community.

Below the video are additional links to other episodes. The episode featured in this blog post focuses on Knick fans at Madison Square Garden right before Carmelo Anthony’s first game.

On The Corner: Is your Black history only worth 28 days?

On The Corner: Is President Obama soft?

On The Corner: Are segregated classrooms better for Black student performance?

On The Corner: Haiti, one year later

Last week, I went to the White House for the second time. The previous visit was a sit-down with 12 minority web editors to talk about the now famed Midterm Elections. The White House invited us out a month before the “shellacking” to help Black and Latino turnout.

On that day, I was able to meet and shake the president’s hand. This time? Not so; unless I wanted to end up as a screenshot on the nightly news with Secret Service pictured around me.

But my second experience in D.C was better than my first.

I was able to cover the Medal of Freedom ceremony and see greats like Bill Russell, Maya Angelou, Stan Musial, and Congressman John Lewis to name a few. I learned how the White House works, met fellow journalists, made valuable contacts and learned how the staffers of the top congressmen and senators operate.

I also realized that D.C. is a ‘what you can do for me’ environment, and how as a member of the press, it can only help to further my career through different opportunities.

In final, whether President Obama is in office or not, I hope to not only be a regular journalist visiting whenever there is a briefing or ceremony. One day, I want to be deep in those rooms with policy people providing my thoughts on issues that affect Blacks and Latinos.

Only time will tell…

she happened to have on her date of birth.

Mom, I wish you all the best on your special day. As you grow older, you become even more beautiful than you already are. You look like you’re in your mid 30′s. People think I’m your boyfriend when we walk outside. It’s that bad. I’m glad this day neighbors a weekend so you can relax and have fun.

As for your looking younger than his age (I kid, I kid) son, I turn 27 today and as the years have passed, I look forward to birthdays more and more. I’m embracing getting up there in years.

Why?

Because I’ve learned to appreciate life. I’ve learned to appreciate the roof over my head, the food, the job, the health, etc. I used to complain about not having material things and never cared to think about how lucky I’ve been with everything I just mentioned.

But with age comes change right?

So I’m extremely grateful for my friends, my family, and another year of life.

The future is going to be beautiful and the next few days I’ll spend with tons of liquor in my system…
