For all you new residents, I know you can’t stand the noise coming from Mister Softee, salsa blaring from radios late night, and motorcycles. But me? I’m used to all this. I don’t even sweat it. I’m conditioned.

What bothers me is stuff that some of you got to finally experience this year. You know, like the parade floats riding around with huge flyers and bachata blasting late at night from them.

I’ve been to DR a thousand times in my life and that’s exactly where these fools get this from. All Dominican politicians in DR do this crap and it works for them. But that’s DR; this is America.

Plus, everyone in the Heights and Inwood isn’t Dominican. It may not bother “most” of us (does me), but to the new residents of the neighborhood who are White, Black, etc., it just doesn’t sit well.

And as the year’s pass, you won’t be able to depend on the “portion” of Dominicans who are swayed by what song you’re playing on your float when they enter the booths. This neighborhood will continue to become more diverse and your political campaign strategies will need some altering.

I’ve talked to so many people in the past week who have said, “I will not vote for a candidate if I see a float with music blasting past 7 P.M. in my neighborhood.” And I don’t disagree with any of these people.

Sidebar: Kudos to Victor Bernace for not playing music; and tweeting me to let me know that he didn’t engage in those childish promotional stunts.

Anyways, gracias a Dios (Thank God) that all of this is over.

Also, congrats to Ydanis. I don’t know if he engaged in this float nonsense, but I’ve known him for a long time (from afar) and am proud of his win.

Onto the reasons why I couldn’t stand these past three months:

#1 I got tired of people handing me flyers who knew absolutely nothing about their candidate’s positions.

#2 If you can only talk one language, espanol, how could you explain your candidate’s position to non Spanish speaking folk?

#3 If you walk or drive in this ‘hood, you already know its litter central. Might as well be Fordham Road with all the traffic, vendors, and basura on the floor. When I was walking up the 1 train steps in Dyckman, you could barely see the stairs. It was that bad.

#4 You guys don’t have an ounce of creativity. Not an ounce. Most of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

#5 People ask me to run for local office? I even thought about it during this last election. Until I see the community fight against these fools on their parade floats, and candidates become a bit more serious, then maybe I’ll consider it.

#6 There were at least 10-15 candidates in this race. I was on NY1 watching results and it almost took a minute to complete our district. It’s ridiculous and gives Dominicans a bad name.

I know everyone is all politics goo-goo-ga-ga since Obama won, but most of you do not know what it takes to be a politician. Not that I do, but I know you guys don’t; and that’s why I didn’t throw my name in the hat.

These are individuals who know that the 70k or 100k+ salary they’ll earn doing minimal work will make for a better life than what they have now (sorry for being harsh). These are the same people if they would’ve won, would have been in the pocket of every restaurant owner in this neighborhood.

In a few years, if Ydanis didn’t win, you would have seen outside restaurant seating everywhere in Dyckman. I say this because I KNOW THIS.

Step up your game’s guys!

Hopefully, Ydanis is sincere and doesn’t pull a Miguel Martinez on us.
