I’ve decided that I will report any cab that decides to ask me where I’m going before I get in the car. I’m specifically talking about the yellow cabs – no others.
The sad part is that the ones that always ask me are minorities. When I get in the cab, I tell you where I’m going and that’s the end of it. If you don’t want to stop for me, fine. But if you do decide to stop for me, don’t roll down your window and ask me where I’m going. That’s against the law.
I’m pretty sure if I say Brownsville, South Bronx or Queensbridge, you will tell me to hop in or that you can’t go there? You know how many times I’ve stopped cabbies after leaving a club and told them I’m going to Riverdale (one of the safest neighborhoods in NY) in the Bronx and they speed off or make up a silly excuse!?
It’s just really sad that in this day and age, people still have to deal with nonsense like this. I don’t want to experience this anymore after it occurring multiple times. I also don’t want to have to ask a randon white man/woman to catch me a cab or have one offer to do so. Its just really disheartening and shouldn’t occur anywhere; especially in the “greatest and most diverse city in the world” as us New Yorkers love to say.

I completely agree. I get that response when I say “218th Street & Broadway” and it’s still in Manhattan. So now if a car pulls up and rolls down the window to ask me, I just give them an obscene gesture and wait for the next that lets me in. Once I’m in, they’re not getting me out till I’m home!
